IRVING — Dempsey Thornton was named to the Conference USA All-Academic team, the league office announced on Monday.
Thornton, who maintains a 4.00 GPA in sport event & tourism management, was UTSA's 2012-13 William and Mary Hathaway Academic Athlete of the Year and she has been named to the President's List each semester. The Corpus Christi native earned Western Athletic Conference All-Academic honors in Fall 2012 and was named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2011.
Thornton has been a key cog in the team's run to this year's Conference USA Regular Season Championship, as she ranks third on the squad with an average of 2.07 kills per set.
The Roadrunners (21-7) will begin C-USA Tournament play at noon on Friday against the winner of Thursday's first-round match between Southern Mississippi and UTEP.
