Fish named to Conference USA All-Academic team on Thursday

IRVING — Samantha Fish was one of seven athletes named to this year's Conference USA All-Academic team, the league office announced on Thursday.

Fish, who maintains a 3.91 GPA in interdisciplinary studies, has been a key contributor for the C-USA Champion Rodrunners this season.

The senior from Los Fresno opened the campaign with three consecutive top-three finishes, as she placed third at the Alamo City Opener (Aug. 31), second at Texas Lutheran Invitational (Sept. 7) and third at UTSA Ricardo Romo Classic (Sept. 20). Fish finished 17th two weeks ago at the league championship meet, where UTSA captured its first conference title since 1996.

A 2012 second-team All-Western Athletic Conference performer (13th place) and 2010 All-Southland honoree (10th place), she has been the Roadrunners’ top finisher seven times during her four-year career.

It marks the third consecutive year that Fish has been recognized for her work in the classroom. She was named to the WAC All-Academic squad last season and was a Southland All-Academic honoree the previous year.

UTSA returns to action at Friday's NCAA South Central Regional in Waco. The Roadrunners enter the meet as the region's fifth-ranked squad.
