Roadrunners sweep third consecutive match on Sunday

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA swept Florida Atlantic by scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-11 on Sunday afternoon and improved to a perfect 4-0 in Conference USA play.

Freshman Dajana Boskovic racked up a career-high 17 kills on her way to hitting .640 and McKenzie Adams added 12 to go along with 14 digs, as the Roadrunners (12-6, 4-0 C-USA) recorded their third consecutive conference sweep. In fact, the Birds now have won 12 consecutive sets dating back to their Sept. 27 victory at Tulane.

The two teams traded scoring runs in an entertaining opening set that saw UTSA recover from a 15-12 deficit with a 7-0 run only to see the Owls respond to tie it things up at 22-all. The Birds had one final spurt to turn momentum back in their favor after they connected for the final three points of the set. Boskovic had a set-high five kills, while Adams recorded a set-best seven digs.

The Roadrunners came out firing in the second frame by scoring the first four points en route to taking a 2-0 lead. UTSA hit .361 and held Florida Atlantic to .146 hitting percentage with Adams downing seven winners to lead the way.  

UTSA continued to ascend in a dominant final set, as it outhit the visitiors .379 to -.152. Boskovic added another six kills to cap off her impressive afternoon.

Florida Atlantic (9-8, 1-3 C-USA) got 25 assists from Jelena Jovanovic and a team-high eight kills each from Liene Mellupe and Katarina Stepanovic.

The Roadrunners will begin two-match road trip on Friday, Oct. 11 at Southern Miss (10-8, 1-2 C-USA).
