TULSA, Okla. — UTSA's Diogo Casa and Yannick Junger saw their run at the ITA All-American Championships end in the consolation bracket of the main doubles draw on Friday evening at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Casa, a sophomore from Pelotas, Brazil, and Junger, a junior from Stuttgart, Germany, took out Chip Cox and Kyle Koch of South Carolina with an 8-4 victory in the first round of the consolation bracket.
However, the Roadrunners tandem fell to Texas' Lloyd Glasspool and Soren Hess, 8-4, in the quarterfinal round, which ended their stay at one of the top fall tournaments in the country.
Casa and Junger earned a spot in the main draw of 32 doubles teams by registering four qualifying section victories in a two-day span earlier in the week, including upsets against the fourth-seeded team of Guillermo Alcorta and Axel Alvarez of Oklahoma (8-5) and the No. 15 duo of Johnny Grimal and David O'Leary of Miami (8-5). They ended up in the consolation bracket following an 8-4 setback at the hands of the sixth-seeded team of Manfred Jeske and Mike Nott of Arkansas on Thursday night.
