Middle Tennessee sweeps UTSA on Sunday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee ended UTSA's five-match winning streak to open Conference USA play with a 25-22, 25-22, 25-16 sweep on Sunday.

The Bue Raiders (11-7, 3-2 C-USA) hit .360 and got 14 kills from Chelsea Ross in rebounding from Friday night's loss to UTEP.

Preseason C-USA Player of the Year McKenzie Adams was the lone Roadrunner to break the double-digit kill barrier with 16 on .297 hitting. Brandy Huskey added 19 assists for UTSA, which dropped to 13-7 overall (5-1 C-USA).

Middle Tennessee closed out the opening frame with a 7-4 run to break open an 18-all tie. Ross contributed a pair of kills in the decisive stretch.

Slow starts in both the second and third sets proved costly for the Birds, as the Blue Raiders built and maintained 6-2 and 8-2 leads in each set, respectively.

UTSA will return to the friendly confines of the Convocation Center on Friday when it hosts its annual “Dig Pink” match against Rice (6-14, 3-3 C-USA). First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
