HATTIESBURG, Miss. – UTSA remained unbeaten in Conference USA play following a four-set victory at Southern Mississippi on Friday night (25-18, 24-26, 25-12, 25-15).
McKenzie Adams led three Roadrunners in double figures with a team-high 17 kills and she added 14 digs. Dajana Boskovic extended her double-digit kill streak to eight matches with 15 winners, which equalled Dempsey Thornton. Brandy Huskey added 48 assists and 10 digs, as UTSA (13-6, 5-0 C-USA) won its third consecutive road match to open conference play.
The combination of Huskey and Adams made quick work of the opening set with Huskey dishing out 15 assists and Adams connecting for eight kills, as the Roadrunners hit a blistering .586.
Southern Miss (10-9, 1-3 C-USA) broke a 13-set winning streak for the Birds in the second stanza after recovering from a 19-15 deficit. Stephany Purdue had four of her 10 kills and the Golden Eagles captured the match’s final two points tie the match going into intermission.
UTSA picked up the defensive effort coming out of the locker room by limiting Southern Miss to a -.095 hitting percentage in a lopsided third set. Boskovic recorded eight blocks and three kills in the frame, as the Roadrunners hit .241.
Adams recording another five kills and Huskey dished out 11 assists in the fourth and final set.
UTSA finishes its weekend road trip on Sunday at Middle Tennessee (10-7, 2-2 C-USA). First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
