Roadrunners sweep Louisiana Tech on Sunday

RUSTON, La. — UTSA wrapped up a perfect opening weekend of Conference USA play with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-14 sweep at Louisiana Tech on Sunday. The Roadrunners (10-6, 2-0 C-USA) produced the sixth-best team hitting percentage (.468) in a C-USA match in league history.

McKenzie Adams paced the offense with a .458 hitting percentage on the strength of 13 kills, while freshman Dajana Boskovic added 12 en route to hitting .579. Brandy Huskey quarterbacked the offense with 38 assists.

The Roadrunners came out firing in the opening set by hitting .545 and they commited just one attack error. Huskey dished out 11 helpers and had three blocks, while Adams and Dempsey Thornton each tallied four winners.

UTSA continued its strong offensive display in the second stanza by connecting for a .448 hitting percentage. Adams collected seven kills and three blocks and Huskey contributed 14 assists and a pair of winners, as the Birds ended the set on a 5-1 run to take a commanding 2-0 advantage into the locker room.

The Birds coasted to the three-set victory by building a 12-4 lead and never looking back in the final frame. UTSA, which hit .429 in the stanza, was led by Boskovic’s five kills and Huskey’s 13 assists and two service aces.

Xzache Mathis’ 11 kills led Louisiana Tech (6-11, 0-2 C-USA).

The Roadrunners will host FIU (7-7, 1-1 C-USA) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4.
