Adams sweeps Conference USA Player of the Week awards

IRVING — McKenzie Adams became the first player in Conference USA history to sweep both the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, the league office announced on Monday.

Adams propelled UTSA to a perfect 4-0 week and a tournament title at the Hilton Mavericks Classic in Arlington with three double-doubles and a .269 hitting percentage. The Schertz native averaged 5.50 kills per set in wins at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Sept. 9), UT Arlington (Sept. 13), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi again (Sept. 14) and Mississippi Valley State (Sept. 14). Adams hit .632 as UTSA set a new school hitting percentage record of .536 in Saturday's win against the Delta Devilettes. She has now reached double-digit kills in all but one match this season.

In addition to her offensive prowess, the senior outside hitter also displayed her all-around talents by averaging 3.36 digs and 0.93 blocks per set. She had three double-digit dig performances last week, including 18 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and had a high of five blocks against Mississippi Valley State.

UTSA (7-4) will be back in action on Friday when it hosts I-35 rival Texas State (9-4). First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
