BRYAN — Brogan Townend tied for 17th place and led UTSA to an eighth-place finish at The “Mo”Morial, which concluded on Wednesday at Traditions Golf Club (par 72/6,206 yards).
Townend led the Roadrunners with nine birdies for the event after posting five on the final day of the tournament and she finished with a seven-over-par 223 (78-73-72).
UTSA carded a 308 in the final round to finish its season-opening tournament with a 54-hole score of 922 (304-310-308).
Fabiola Arriaga, who posted eight birdies during the three-day event, tied for 20th with an eight-over 224 (71-76-77). Freshman Aimee Ponte tied for 47th with a 237 (78-80-79), while Taylor Newlin finished tied for 49th at 238 (77-81-80). Chelsea Bretcher rounded out the scoring for the Roadrunners with a 246 (79-86-81) to finish in a tie for 58th.
Kentucky led the 12-team field with an eight-over 872 (294-292-286) and the Wildcats were followed by Virginia (883), UCF (885), East Carolina (893) and Texas A&M (894).
Meanwhile, Kentucky’s Haley Mills won the individual title with a three-under 213 (70-72-71).
UTSA will return to action next weekend when it travels to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship. The three-day tournament is scheduled to tee off on Friday, Sept. 20.
