SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will open its 2013 campaign with three matches at this weekend's Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La.
The Roadrunners will open tournament play against host LSU at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. UTSA then will face San Diego State and UC Davis at 12:30 and 5:30 p.m., respectively, the following day.
The Birds are seeking their first victory against that trio of teams, as they enter the weekend with an all-time record of 0-2 against LSU and against San Diego State and 0-1 versus UC Davis.
UTSA returns five starters and its libero from the 2012 squad that registered a 21-9 overall record and 13-5 mark in its lone campaign as a member of the Western Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners, who are picked to finish in a second-place tie in the preseason Conference USA Poll, are led by Preseason Player of the Year McKenzie Adams, a 6-3 senior outside hitter from Schertz, and preseason all-conference defensive specialist Annie Kunes, a sophomore from Fontana, Wis.
