UTSA to open Park West Athletics Complex with dedication on Friday

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA officially will open its new Park West Athletics Complex with a 6 p.m. dedication ceremony on Friday prior to the first-ever contest held at the new facility, a 7 p.m. exhibition women’s soccer match between UTSA and Incarnate Word.

The ceremony will be held under the bleachers and between the soccer stadium and the track & field complex. UTSA Director of Athletics Lynn Hickey will be serve as the master of ceremonies and UTSA President Dr. Ricardo Romo and several city and county officials will make remarks.

Following the remarks, Dr. Romo will lead members of the UTSA track & field teams and youth track & field athletes in a ceremonial first race on the track straightaway.

The ceremony and soccer match both are open to the public with free admission and the concession stand also will be open. Fans should enter the complex from the intersection of the Loop 1604 Frontage Road and Kyle Seale Parkway. There is no access off Hausman Road.

The UTSA Park West Athletics Complex is a joint-use facility made possible through the 2003 Bexar County and 2007 City of San Antonio bond elections and the 2008 Bexar County Venue Tax election. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on April 10, 2012, and construction began shortly after on the soccer and track & field facilities.
