Bormann named TD Ameritrade Fan's Choice Award finalist on Friday

CHICAGO, Ill. — John Bormann was named one of 15 finalists for the TD Ameritrade Fan's Choice Award, the TD Ameritrade Holding Corporation and Intersport announced on Friday.

The award, which is the only college baseball honor determined solely by fans, recognizes players who excel beyond the diamond and whose leadership inspires others. Each of the 15 finalists demonstrate integrity in all aspects of life, stay active in their community and are dedicated in the classroom.

Bormann is a co-captain who has caught all 514.2 innings this spring. He was named to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) All-Tournament Team after leading the Roadrunners with a .471 batting average during the five-day event. Bormann leads the nation with 14 pickoffs and has thrown out 60.8 percent of base stealers (31-of-51), which ranks second in the country.

Off the field, the Seguin native carries a 3.73 cumulative GPA as a business major and he just wrapped up a 3.91 GPA spring semester. Bormann is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and he was selected to attend November's NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum in Dallas. An active leader in the community. he spent time working with children last fall at The Miracle League of San Antonio.

The winner of the award will be announced on July 3 at the 2013 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby in Omaha, Neb.

Davidson's Drew Gadaire was selected as the first winner last summer.

Bormann and the fourth-seeded Roadrunners (35-23), winners of seven consecutive games (10 of 11 overall) won the WAC Tournament Championship last weekend and will take on No. 3 national seed Oregon State (45-10) at 7 p.m. (CT) on Friday at Goss Stadium in Corvallis, Ore.
