GRAND PRAIRIE — Friday's Western Athletic Conference Tournament game between No. 4 seed UTSA and regular season co-champion CSU Bakersfield was suspended due to inclement weather. The scoreless contest will pick up at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the top of the fifth inning.
John Welborn doubled to lead off the fifth before heavy rains began to fall at QuikTrip Park. It was the sixth hit of the night for UTSA (33-23).
Both teams were sent to the dugouts at 8:04 p.m. and they waited nearly an hour before beginning to warm up in preparation of resuming at 9 p.m. However, more lightning forced another delay of at least an hour and the decision to suspend the tilt came after a one-hour, 54-minute stoppage of play.
Starting pitcher Nolan Trabanino had blanked CSU Bakersfield (37-21) on just three singles through the opening four frames.
The winner of the contest will clinch a berth into Sunday's championship game, which is scheduled for 1 p.m.
