NORMAN, Okla. — UTSA began play at this weekend's NCAA Central Regional on Thursday. The Roadrunners closed the opening day in 20th place with a 302 at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club (par 72/6,298 yards).
Fabiola Arriaga and Taylor Newlin led the way with a two-over-par 74s and the duo is tied for 48th on the individual leaderboard.
Arriaga shot one-over on the back nine with a birdie on No. 18 before birds on Nos. 3 and 5 on the front. Meanwhile, Newlin’s lone birdie of the day came on No. 15 and she carded even-par on the back nine.
Paola Valerio was not far behind with a 76 to tie for 77th after firing birdies on Nos. 5, 8 and 12 and Brogan Townend finished with a 78 to tie for 105th. Allie Johnston rounded out the UTSA lineup with an 82 to close the day in 120th place.
Third-seeded Florida leads the way with a six-under-par 282 and the Gators hold a one-stroke lead over regional host and No. 2 seed Oklahoma. Emily Collins aided the Sooners with a five-under-par 67 to top the individual standings.
The Roadrunners, who are playing in their third consecutive national regional, will tee off their second round at 7:30 a.m. on Friday.
