Roadrunners knock off Redhawks, 8-4

BELLEVUE, Wash. — UTSA scored in five different innings and handed Seattle an 8-4 loss on Saturday at Bannerwood Park.

The Roadrunners (18-13, 4-4 WAC) never trailed in the second game of the set.

The Redhawks (10-20, 2-6 WAC), who committed four errors in the contest, scored three times on back-to-back home runs in the ninth, but they fell four runs short in their rally.

Jordan Pacheco (7-1) surrendered his only three runs with two outs in the final panel. He gave up four hits, walked two and struck out a pair in five relief innings of work.

Meanwhile, Garrett Anderson (1-5) allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and walked six in four stanzas.

Mike Warren paced UTSA's offensive attack with three hits, including a solo home run and a double, and he also drove in two runs. Horacio Correa III and John Welborn both chipped in with a pair of hits and two RBIs.

The Roadrunners held a 2-1 lead in the fifth before Correa III's two-run single pushed the advantage to three.

UTSA tacked on another mark a panel later on John Bormann's run-scoring single and two more in the seventh, thanks to Welborn's bloop double.

The Birds increased their lead to 8-1 after Warren's solo home run to lead off the ninth.

Seattle sparked a two-out rally in the ninth.

After Chase Fields was hit by Pacheco, Sean Narby clubbed a two-run homer to left on an 0-1 fastball. Four pitches later, Grant Newton hit a solo shot to right to pull the Redhawks to within four. However, after a Brian Olson single, the Roadrunners brought in Wesley Cox, who forced Ryan Somers to pop out and end the game.

The series finale is scheduled for 2 p.m. (CT) on Sunday. UTSA will send left-hander Nolan Trabanino (3-2, 3.78 ERA) to the mound, while Seattle will counter with righty Skyler Genger (3-4, 3.57 ERA).
