SAN ANTONIO — Robert Singletary registered four tackles and a fumble recovery to help lead the defense to a strong showing in the second of three spring scrimmages on Saturday afternoon before approximately 400 fans at Harlandale Memorial Stadium.
Cody Berry and Jens Jeters also posted four stops apiece, while All-Western Athletic Conference safety Triston Wade and Spencer Phillips each recorded interceptions, as the defense forced 12 three-and-outs on 20 drives.
Brandon Armstrong led the offense with 54 total yards, 30 coming through the air on a pair of receptions, while Kenny Harrison racked up 31 yards and a touchdown on three catches.
After a three-and-out on the opening possession, Zach Conque led the second team offense down the field on a 10-play, 70-yard scoring drive. The redshirt freshman quarterback found Earon Holmes for 22 yards to help set up a 24-yard scoring strike to Harrison in the corner of the end zone.
The defense answered with three consecutive three-and-outs before Sean Ianno drilled a 55-yard field goal.
Wade's pick came on a tipped pass over the middle on the second play of a drive three possessions later. The defense then forced two more three-and-outs before Singletary's fumble recovery inside the 20-yard line helped set up a 32-yard field goal by Ianno.
Phillips came up with his interception on a deep sideline pass after two more punts. Two possessions later, Eric Soza engineered a 10-play, 70-yard drive that the senior signal caller capped with a 36-yard touchdown scamper down the sideline on an option keeper to the right side.
The UTSA Football Fiesta Spring Game presented by Health Texas is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at Dub Farris Stadium.
