Roadrunners roll past Patriots in Sunday's series finale, 7-2

DALLAS — Daniel Rockett drove in five runs, Michael Kraft tossed two-hit ball over seven innings and UTSA rolled to a 7-2 victory at Dallas Baptist on Sunday afternoon at Horner Ballpark.

Rockett went 2-for-5 with a triple and a two-run homer to back up Kraft's best pitching performance of the season and John Welborn chipped in with three hits, including a double, and Riley Good was 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI. The Roadrunners (24-19, 8-9 WAC) had 11 base hits on the day.

Kraft (3-5) walked three and struck out six while holding the Patriots (22-22, 9-9 WAC) in check for the majority of his outing. The left-hander battled through a rough first inning tht saw DBU load the bases. However, he struck out Austin Listi to quell the early threat. He then settled in and retired the next nine hitters and allowed just three more base runners the rest of the way before giving way to the bullpen.

UTSA scored four runs in the third and three more times two innings later to open up 7-0 advantage.

Rockett's bases-clearing triple to left put the Roadrunners in front, 3-0, and three pitches later, RJ Perucki lined a single to center to make it a four-run advantage.

Welborn led off the fifth with a double to left center and he was driven home when Good tripled to the opposite gap. Three pitches later, Rockett greeted reliever Jay Calhoun with a two-run homer over the wall in left.

Dallas Baptist managed two runs in the ninth on Mike Wesolowski's one-out round-tripper.

Cody Beam (3-1) allowed six runs on seven hits in four-plus innings.

UTSA will open a seven-game home stand on Tuesday, April 30, against former Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State (27-17). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Roadrunner Field.
