SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will travel to the Bayou State this weekend for a three-game series at Louisiana Tech. The series begins with a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and concludes with a single game at 1 p.m. the following day.
The Roadrunners (23-21, 6-9 WAC) went 3-2 last week, including a midweek twinbill sweep against former Southland Conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Darian Blake improved her team-high batting average to .372, which ranks fourth in the league, while the junior from Katy has a .434 mark in conference play. Siera Sproul homered against the Islanders for her team-leading sixth round-tripper of the season and the Liberty Hill native’s 12 extra-base hits trail only Megan Low’s 15 for tops on the squad. Haylee Staton ranks sixth in the Western Athletic Conference with a 2.67 ERA and 95 strikeouts, while her 11 wins are tied for fourth.
Meanwhile, the Lady Techsters (22-22, 7-8 WAC) enter the weekend tied for fourth in the league standings. Kristen Miles leads the team with a .366 average and her 33 runs scored are just behind Amanda Krueger’s team-best 34 runs. Krueger and Anna Cross each have belted six homers, while Melanie Goff has 28 RBIs. Cross has a 3.37 ERA to go along with a 6-6 record in the circle, but Michelle Jones (10-8, 3.72 ERA) has seen the most time on the pitching rubber for LA Tech this spring.
UTSA leads the all-time series, 7-1, including a doubleheader sweep in the last meetings on April 14, 2005. The Birds are 4-0 in Ruston, La., and they have won seven consecutive games against the Lady Techsters.
