Ayala tabbed Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Martin Ayala was named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced on Monday.

Ayala, who also earned the honor on Feb. 25, guided the Roadrunners to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory against then-No. 72 Idaho last Friday.

The Quito, Ecuador, native collected a pair of victories in the match.

Ayala and teammate Diogo Casa picked up an 8-4 win at the top doubles flight to improve to 16-3 this spring.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound senior then netted a three-set win against Dmitry Perevoshchikov at No. 1 singles to give UTSA a 3-2 lead in the contest.

The Roadrunners (12-10) will enter this week's WAC Tournament against sixth-seeded UT Arlington (7-13) at 11 a.m. (CT) on Friday.
