Cray named Western Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Ernestine Cray was named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Cray won her second consecutive triple jump title to open the outdoor season and also took over the WAC lead at Saturday's Texas Invitational. The junior skipped to a career-best measurement of 42-2 ¾ (12.87m) on her sixth and final attempt of the afternoon and that was nearly two feet better than runner-up Samantha Collins-Reynolds of TCU. Her previous career best, 41-5 (12.62m), came at last year's NCAA Preliminary Rounds, which also was contested at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Cray now ranks 15th on the national leaderboard. She also finished 13th in the long jump with a wind-aided leap of 18-2 ½ (5.55m).

UTSA will return to action at Saturday's Longhorns Invitational.
