Cray wins Texas Invitational triple jump title on Saturday

AUSTIN — Ernestine Cray won her second consecutive triple jump title to open the outdoor season and she led UTSA at Saturday's Texas Invitational.

The junior skipped to a career-best measurement of 42-2 ¾ (12.87m) on her sixth and final attempt of the afternoon and that was nearly two feet better than runner-up Samantha Collins-Reynolds of TCU. Her previous career best, 41-5 (12.62m), came at last year's NCAA Preliminary Rounds, which also was contested at Mike A. Myers Stadium. She now ranks 15th on the national leaderboard.

Meanwhile, Katie Bragg (hammer), Samantha Fish (3,000m steeplechase) and Nina Herrera (3,000m) all collected silver medals at the one-day meet, while Jessica Bitterly (3k steeple), Emily Perez (3k) and the 400m relay relay of Krystal Wynn, Shahira Ehiemua, Alexus Daniels and Greneshia Wright each recorded third-place performances.

UTSA will return to Austin next Saturday, April 20, for the Longhorns Invitational.
