SAN ANTONIO — UTSA pounded out 17 hits and ran away with a 12-5 victory against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday night at Roadrunner Field.
The Roadrunners (19-13) overcame a 5-4 fifth-inning deficit by scoring eight unanswered runs in their final four at-bats to complete the two-game season sweep of the Islanders (19-13), who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end.
UTSA, which also registered a 19-4 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 20, used a three-run fifth to take the lead for good and it tacked on two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to pull away.
Daniel Rockett paced the offensive outburst with three hits, including a double, and four RBIs, while Mike Warren and Horacio Correa III both were 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Warren hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth, while Correa III posted a third-inning run-scoring two-bagger.
Six other Roadrunners also recorded at least one hit on the night.
Wesley Cox (2-0) earned the win for the Birds in relief. The right-hander held the Islanders to a run on five hits over four stanzas.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, which used nine pitchers in the contest, saw Tyler Schnuriger (0-3) take the loss after allowing three runs on four hits in one-third of an inning.
UTSA will return to Western Athletic Conference play on Friday night when it begins a three-game series at CSU Bakersfield (21-11, 6-3 WAC).
