Roadrunners roll past Stephen F. Austin on Sunday, 13-3

SAN ANTONIO — Tony Ramirez tied a program record with five hits and drove in three runs and UTSA rolled past former Southland Conference foe Stephen F. Austin, 13-3, in Sunday's finale of this weekend's UTSA Classic at Wolff Stadium.

The Roadrunners (9-3), who won their fourth consecutive game, racked up 16 hits against five Lumberjacks pitchers. It marked the seventh game this season in which the Birds collected double-digit hits.

Ramirez was a perfect 5-for-5 with a double to go along with his three RBIs. Meanwhile, Riley Good added three hits, including a triple, and drove in three and John Bormann had a three-run double.

Stephen F. Austin (3-6) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead following Mackenzie Handels's two-run home run in the first inning.

However, UTSA answered with four two-out runs in the bottom of the panel and never looked back.

The Roadrunners loaded the bases against SFA starter Cameron Gann in the opening frame, but the right-hander induced back-to-back ground balls, which allowed force outs to be made at the plate to keep UTSA off the scoreboard. However, Bormann cleared the bases after lining a two-bagger off the wall in left and Ramirez followed with a single up the middle to cap the big inning.

The Birds then plated five in the third, another in the fourth, a pair in the sixth and one more in the seventh, while the Lumberjacks managed only one run after the opening stanza.

Jordan Pacheco (2-0) picked up the win in relief. The right-hander yielded only three hits and struck out three in 3.2 frames.

Gann (0-2) was hammered for eight runs (seven earned) on six hits over his 2.1 stanzas.

UTSA will return to action on Tuesday, March 5, when it travels to San Marcos to take on I-35 rival Texas State (4-7) in a non-conference contest. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Bobcat Ballpark.
