SAN ANTONIO — Roscoe Robinson won the long jump with a school-record performance at Friday's Trinity Tigers Relays to lead the UTSA men's track & field team, which competed at a pair of meets this weekend.
Robinson became just the fourth athlete in Roadrunners history to surpass the 25-foot barrier when he leaped 25-9 ¼ (7.85m). That broke the standard established by Tyler Williamson a year ago by a half inch and it currently leads the Western Athletic Conference in addition to ranking second on this year's national leaderboard.
His gold medal was one of a half dozen by UTSA at the local meet.
Andrew Akens (shot put), Joshua Smith (400m hurdles), Kerry Thompson (high jump), Andris Vistins (hammer) and the 1,600-meter relay of Johnathan Jones, Chrisshun Jamerson, Nathan Collier and Eric Gosset also were victorious.
The Roadrunners also posted a total of six runner-up performances this weekend, including Collier's second-place showing in the 1,500m (B section) on Thursday at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
UTSA will return to action next weekend at the Texas State Invitational. The two-day meet is slated to begin on Friday, April 5.
