SAN MARCOS — Individual victories by Ernestine Cray, Alyssa Diaz and Nina Herrera helped propel the UTSA women's track & field team to a one-point victory at this weekend's Texas State Elite meet.
Cray was victorious in the triple jump with a measurement of 39-3 ¼ (11.97m), Herrera won the 1,500 meters in 4:37.59 and Diaz captured gold in the 3k in 9:49.68.
The Roadrunners, who accounted for 139.5 points during the two-day meet, edged I-35 rival and meet host Texas State for the team championship. No. 16 Illinois and 21st-ranked UCLA tied for third with 119.
UTSA also posted a half dozen second-place performances and a total of four bronze medals.
The Roadrunners will return to action next weekend at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays (March 27-30) and Trinity Tigers Relays (March 29).
