SAN ANTONIO — UTSA's Richard Garrett Jr. knows that the big man will be waiting for him next week in Fayetteville, Ark.
But it's really not a worry.
Garrett Jr. feels pretty confident in himself after what he accomplished last Friday in Albuquerque, N.M.
A burly 6-foot, 260 pounder, Garrett surged into the national championship discussion by winning the shot put title at the Western Athletic Conference indoor meet.
With his school-record throw of 65 feet, 9 1/2 inches, the UTSA senior registered a stunning upset of 6-6, 290-pound Bozidar Antunovic from UT Arlington.
Antunovic threw 65-8 1/4, settling for second.
