SAN ANTONIO — UTSA made quick work of visiting Laredo Community College with a sweep in its season opener on Saturday afternoon.
The Roadrunners (1-0) picked up a pair of singles wins by forfeit, one by retirement and three others in perfect straight-sets fashion.
Senior Kavya Menon and freshmen Jacobea Junger and Alena Shichkova all won by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores, while junior Isabelle Jonsson was well on her way to the same result before Rebecca Delgado was forced to retire from the match.
UTSA set the tone early with a pair of quick doubles wins to claim the opening point.
After Jonsson and Shichkova netted an 8-2 victory at the top spot, Junger and sophomore Daniela Garcia-Diaz followed with an 8-0 win at the No. 2 position.
The Palominos (0-1), who are ranked No. 17 in the ITA/NJCAA poll, traveled to the match with only four players.
The Roadrunners will return to action on Sunday in a non-conference contest against Texas-Pan American. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
