Rockett, Cox named Western Athletic Conference Players of the Week

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Daniel Rockett and Wesley Cox were named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday.

The duo guided the Roadrunners to a four-game sweep of Air Force last weekend, their first in nearly five years.

Rockett was 10-of-15 (.667) with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs. His 15 total bases translated to a 1.000 slugging percentage and he reached base at a .714 clip. The Sugar Land native had at least two hits in each of the four games, including a 4-for-5 performance in Friday's season opener. Rockett also was perfect in six chances in the field and he also threw a base runner out at home plate.

Meanwhile, Cox played a key role in both games of last Saturday's doubleheader against the Falcons. He recorded a win in the opener and a save in the nightcap. In the two relief appearances, the Rockwall native logged a 1.50 ERA and struck out six in six innings of work. The right-hander came in to hurl 2.2 scoreless innings, allowed two hits and fanned a pair to receive the win. He then was called on once again and worked 3.1 stanzas, gave up a run on four hits and struck out four to earn the save.

UTSA kicks off a four-game road trip on Wednesday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3-1). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Chapman Field.
