SAN ANTONIO — Former UTSA All-American Teddy Williams saw his first-ever National Football League (NFL) game action on Sunday. Williams, who was elevated from the Indianapolis Colts practice squad on Friday, did not record any statistics in limited action at cornerback and on special teams in the team's 59-24 loss at the New England Patriots.
The Tyler native joined the Colts practice squad on Oct. 29 after being waived by the Dallas Cowboys in the final round of training camp cuts back on Aug. 31.
Prior to that, he spent two seasons as a member of the Cowboys practice squad at cornerback and wide receiver. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder was placed on the active roster for the final two games of the 2010 campaign but was inactive for contests at the Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles.
Williams became the first athlete in UTSA Athletics history to be signed by an NFL team when the Cowboys inked him to a free-agent deal on July 29, 2010, during their training camp in the Alamo City.
He not only finished his career as the Roadrunners' lone four-time All-American, but he also helped lead UTSA to six Southland Conference Championships (four indoor/two outdoor) from 2007-10. Williams claimed nine Southland titles (five indoor/four outdoor), was twice named the league's Indoor Athlete of the Year (2009-10), as well as Outdoor Outstanding Track Performer (2008, '10), and established program records in the 55m (6.23a), 60m (Southland-best 6.59), 100m (9.90w), 200m (20.60w) and 400m relay (39.59).
