SAN ANTONIO — Junior Fabiola Arriaga tied for 10th place with a 214 (72-69-73) to lead UTSA to a third-place tie in the team standings with an 863 (290-283-290) on Tuesday at The Alamo Invitational. The three-day event ended the Roadrunners' fall campaign.
The Torreon, Mexico, native shot even-par all day, except for a bogey on No. 2 for her final round of 73. Arriaga carded eight birdies overall en route to her third top-10 finish of the fall.
Classmate Taylor Newlin put together her best round of the tournament to tie for 15th with a 216 (72-73-71). She opened her day with a bogey on No. 3 but rebounded for birdies on Nos. 5 and 7. The Frisco native shot two-under on the back nine thanks to birdies on Nos. 14 and 16.
Senior Paola Valerio fired 10 birdies during the three-day event and tied for 22nd at 218 (71-73-74), while freshman Brogan Townend tied for 28th, her best finish of the fall, with a 220 (75-68-77).
Junior Chelsea Bretcher tied for 39th with a 224 (76-76-72) to close out the scoring for UTSA.
No. 9 Oklahoma took the team title with a tournament-record 16-under-par 848 (279-284-285). No. 25 Texas A&M (289-282-285─856), UTSA, No. 43 Tulane (287-296-280─863) and No. 20 Baylor (291-292-291─874) comprised the top five.
Meanwhile, Tulane’s Maribel Lopez Porras carded a tournament-record seven-under-par 209 (69-72-69) to take the individual crown by two strokes.
The Roadrunners will open their spring season at the Mash Up Invitational in Tallahasse, Fla. The three-day tournament will be played from Feb. 15-17.
