Denver downs Roadrunners on Friday night, 4-2

DENVER, Colo. — Kristen Hamilton scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead Denver to a 4-2 victory against UTSA on Friday night.

The Pioneers improved to 11-1-4 overall and remained unbeaten in WAC play at 3-0-2, while the Roadrunners fell to 2-11-2 on (1-3-2 WAC).

Nikki Pappalardo and Kaitlin Bast set up Hamilton’s first goal with a pair of passes that gave the junior a one-on-one opportunity against UTSA goalkeeper Katarina Pus in the 15th minute. The strike was Hamilton’s league-leading 11th of the season.

The Roadrunners came up with the equalizer in the 29th minute, when freshman Simone Boye was fouled in the penalty box. The Regstrup, Denmark, native was awarded a penalty kick and found the back of the net for her third goal of the fall.

However, Denver was able to regain the lead before halftime on Lydia Harlan’s goal in the 42nd minute.

Hamilton then started the scoring in the second half with a winner in the 58th minute.

Junior Maria Jose Rojas pulled UTSA to within one at 3-2 with an unassisted goal in the 72nd minute, but the Pioneers ended the rally six minutes later on Bast’s winner for the final margin.

The Roadrunners two goals were the most allowed by Denver since a 3-3 tie at Texas on Sept. 16.

Pus finished the match with one save, while Lara Campbell recorded four stops for the Pioneers.

UTSA will travel to New Mexico State (2-11-3, 0-4-1 WAC) for a 2 p.m. (CT) contest on Sunday.
