Houston rallies past UTSA on Sunday, 2-1

HOUSTON — Sophomore Charlotte Husoe put UTSA on the board first with a goal in the ninth minute, but Houston rallied for a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Robertson Stadium.

The Aalesund, Norway, native gave the Roadrunners (1-6) an early 1-0 lead with her first collegiate goal. Husoe collected the rebound after junior Maria Jose Rojas’ shot hit the crossbar and she beat goalkeeper Cami Koski for the advantage.

However, the Cougars (4-4) drew even in the 21st minute when Kylie Cook found Kayla Walker for her third winner of the season. The score remained tied until the 73rd minute when Alexis Weaver scored what proved to be the game-winning goal off a pass from Katelyn Rhoades.

Despite outshooting Houston in the second half, 8-4, UTSA was unable to find the back of the net and fell to 2-4 all-time against the Cougars.

Rojas led the Roadrunners with four shots, while junior Kimber Chudej and sophomore Liv Nyhegn each added a pair. Meanwhile, freshman goalkeeper Katarina Pus made six saves to bring her season total to 38.

UTSA will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 21, when it travels to Miami (4-4-1) for a 6 p.m. matchup.
