Red-hot UTSA to square off with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday night

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to continue its best Southland Conference start in program history when it travels to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a 7 p.m. tilt on Tuesday.

The Roadrunners (10-8, 4-0 SLC) have swept all of their foes to start the league slate, including Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin last week. UTSA leads the conference in kills (13.67), assists (12.98) and blocks (2.35) per set.

Redshirt junior Kelsey Schwirtlich has guided the Roadrunners' attack to a .226 hitting percentage while leading the league with 10.45 assists per frame. Junior Whitney Walls ranks seventh in the circuit with 2.98 kills per set, while junior Brittney Malloy is hitting at a league-leading .520 clip since the beginning of Southland play.

Senior Kelsey Jewasko and sophomore McKenzie Adams lead UTSA's defense, which has held its last three opponents under a .100 hitting percentage.

Jewasko currently leads the league and ranks 10th in the nation with 5.7 digs per set. Adams tied a program three-set record last Saturday against the Ladyjacks with nine total blocks (4 solos/5 assists). The Schertz native currently leads the Southland with 1.32 blocks per panel.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (9-10, 1-3 SLC) comes into Tuesday's match on the heels of its first conference victory, which was a five-setter against Sam Houston State on Saturday. The Islanders lead the league with 16.87 digs per frame, while Micah Nolan is the squad's top defensive performer with 5.14 digs per set.

Tuesday marks the 15th meeting between the two squads dating back to the 2002 campaign. The Roadrunners have won all 14 previous meetings and have swept the Islanders a total of eight times.
