Raymond hat trick propels Stephen F. Austin past UTSA, 3-0

SAN ANTONIO — Chelsea Raymond's hat trick propelled Stephen F. Austin to a 3-0 victory against UTSA in the Southland Conference opener for both squads on Friday night at the Recreational Sports Complex.

The Ladyjacks (6-2-1) were aided by a stiff wind in the opening half and they were able to keep the pressure on the Roadrunners (3-6-1). However, SFA was unable to find the back of the net.

It was a different story in the second frame, as the Ladyjacks wasted little time in breaking the scoreless tie on Raymond’s strike in the 48th minute off a feed from Kylie Louw. Twenty minutes later, she notched her second winner of the night, this time from Megan Wasiak, with a shot over junior goalie Dacia Webb’s head. Raymond capped her night with an unassisted goal in the 86th minute to put the match out of reach.

UTSA returns to action against Sam Houston State (4-7-1, 0-1) at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
