SAN ANTONIO — UTSA senior Kelsey Jewasko added another weekly award to her collection on Tuesday after being named to Collegiate Volleyball Update's Top Performers list for the week of Sept. 19-25.
The San Antonio native surpassed the 2,000 digs mark in UTSA's sweep at UT Arlington last Saturday. She posted 41 saves (6.83 dps) last week, including 21 against the Mavericks. Jewasko began her week with 20 digs in UTSA's sweep at I-35 rival Texas State. Her efforts anchored UTSA's defense, which limited its two opponents to a combined .093 hitting percentage.
Jewasko, who has amassed 2,009 digs during her three-plus season in the Alamo City, currently ranks eighth in the nation with 5.68 saves per frame and she also leads the Southland Conference with 341. The two-time Southland Libero of the Year has twice been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 5 & 19) and is one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
UTSA, 8-8 overall, is off to its first 2-0 start in Southland play since 2008. The Roadrunners will return to the friendly confines of the Convocation Center for the first time in three weeks when they host Sam Houston State (9-7, 3-0 SLC) on Thursday night. First serve is schedued for 6:30 p.m.
