SAN ANTONIO — Senior Micaela Silva and freshman Lynsey Maciolek teamed up to advance to the doubles finals of their flight to lead UTSA in the opening day of the Roadrunners Fall Tournament.
Silva and Maciolek posted an 8-4 victory against Texas-Pan American's Dana Nazarova and Suncica Strkic. The duo moved into the first flight finals with an 8-6 triumph over Carolina DeLuca and Gabriela Vazquez of UTEP.
Meanwhile, senior Katie Ottenbreit and junior Vivian Carrillo won their opening doubles match in flight two.
The Roadrunners earned three wins in the first round of singles action.
Senior Stefanie Peana won a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 decision against Nazarova (UTPA) in the top flight, while junior Kavya Menon was a straight-sets winner (6-3, 6-2) over DeLuca (UTEP) in flight two. Ottenbreit also advanced with a default victory in flight five.
The tournament continues at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
