Rojas boots UTSA to 2-0 victory on Friday night

SAN ANTONIO — Sophomore Maria Jose Rojas recorded the first multi-goal match of her career to power UTSA to a 2-0 victory against Weber State in the squad’s non-conference finale on Friday night at the Recreational Sports Complex.

After a scoreless first half in which the Roadrunners (3-5-1) outshot the Wildcats, UTSA turned up the offensive pressure and earned its third shutout in the last four outings.

Rojas put the Roadrunners on the board in the 67th minute after taking a pass from freshman Liv Nyhegn on the right side and beating Weber State goalie Ryann Waldman.

A minute-and-a-half later, the Santiago, Chile, native repeated the feat to give UTSA a 2-0 lead that it would not relinquish. This time it was freshman Anka Grotle’s header to senior Taylor Padia that helped set up Rojas’ strike.

The Roadrunners defense kept the Wildcats (2-7) away from sophomore goalkeeper Danielle Snyder, who improved to 2-0-1 on the season. Snyder collected five saves on the night to aid her third career shutout.

UTSA will open Southland Conference play with the coaches' preseason favorite, Stephen F. Austin (5-2-1), on Friday, Sept. 30.
