FORT WORTH — Tuesday's final round of the UTA/Waterchase Invitational was cancelled due to bees. Second-round results will be considered final, putting UTSA in a tie for ninth place in the 19-team field.
The final round was underway Tuesday morning when a bee hive fell on the 18th hole. Several participants reportedly were stung and a beekeeper was called to the scene. Officials then determined that the threat was too dangerous and cancelled the rest of the tournament immediately.
The Roadrunners carded rounds of 304 and 299 on Monday at Waterchase Golf Club (par 72/7,289 yards) and their 36-hole total of 603 placed them in a tie with Mercer, Southern Mississippi and Texas Wesleyan for ninth place, one stroke behind Southern Illinois (click here for a complete recap of Monday's action).
UTSA will return to the course next weekend when it travels to Albuquerque, N.M., for the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate.
