UTSA in sixth place after opening round of The 'Mo'Morial

BRYAN UTSA opened its fall campaign with an opening-round 312 and the Roadrunners are in sixth place at at The “Mo”Morial, which is being hosted by Texas A&M University.

Sophomore Fabiola Arriaga led the with a 75 and she is tied for 10th place. Starting on No. 10, The 2011 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year recorded a birdie on No. 9 in addition to 14 pars.

Fellow sophomore Taylor Newlin is tied for 20th following her first-round 78. The Frisco native opened her day with a birdie on the par-5, 519-yard 10th hole and she sat 1-under par before a pair of bogeys on Nos. 14 and 15.

Junior Paola Valerio, the 2011 Southland Player of the Year, highlighted her round with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 and she is tied for 31st following a 79.

Seniors Summer Batiste (80) and Shannon Jungman (82) rounded out UTSA's scoring.

No. 21 Auburn leads the field with a 296 and the Tigers’ Carlie Yadloczky and Kentucky’s Ashleigh Albrecht each recorded 70s to top the individual leaderboard. The Roadrunners are just one stroke behind 20th-ranked Texas A&M.

The event continues Monday morning with tee times starting at 8 a.m. at Traditions Golf Club.
