Baylor tops UTSA on Sunday, 5-1

WACO — UTSA took an early 1-0 advantage on sophomore Maria Jose Rojas’ first goal of the season only to see Baylor rally for five goals, including four in the second half, en route to a 5-1 victory on Sunday at Betty Lou Mays Field.

Junior Lindsay South notched her first assist of the year in the ninth minute after lofting a perfect cross to Rojas, whose header found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. However, that would be all the Roadrunners (0-4) would manage.

Dana Larsen knotted the score with a strike that was set up by Karlee Summney in the 21st minute.

After an even first half, the Bears (3-0-1) came out of the locker room on the offensive.

Summney’s unassisted goal from 25 yards out in the 54th minute proved to be the game winner. Alexa Wilde posted a pair of winners and Larsen picked up her second goal of the match before the final whistle.

A physical match from the beginning, the squads combined for 19 fouls and a pair of yellow cards.

Junior goalie Dacia Webb recorded a season-high 10 saves, besting her previous high of eight at SMU on Friday.

The Roadrunners continue their season-opening six-match road trip on Friday, Sept. 2, when they travel to Austin to face Texas (3-1). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the contest can be seen live on the Longhorn Network (check local listings for cable provider).
