Fresno State uses second half push to top UTSA 4-0 on Sunday

COLLEGE STATION — Fresno Statescored all four of its goals in the final 20 minutes of play to defeat UTSA 4-0 on Sunday at Aggie Soccer Stadium in the third match of the season-opening Aggieland Invitational.

Both squads managed just six shots in the first half and the contest remained scoreless deep into the second period.

The Roadrunners (0-2) nearly took the first lead in the 69th minute, but an offsides call negated the strike.

The Bulldogs (1-1) grabbed the advantage three minutes later on Jaycee Bingham's 30-yard netter, which was set up by Kendall Vandine and Callie Hancock. Vandine picked up another assist in the 78th minute when Pernille Ingvaldsen scored to make it 2-0.

Goals by Molly Nizzoli and Kayla Kret in the 83rd and 84th minute, respectively, put the match out of reach.

Sophomore Maria Jose Rojas led UTSA with four shots, while senior Taylor Padia recorded three.

The Roadrunners return to the pitch next Friday, Aug. 26, when they travel to Dallas for a matchup at SMU (0-1). Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Westcott Field.
