Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce joins call to fill Alamodome

SAN ANTONIO — The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce has joined local business leader Red McCombs in a call to sell out the first UTSA football game, which is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Alamodome.

Chamber investors received an email last week inviting them to a breakfast this Friday at Stonewerks Big Rock Grille at The Rim (4507 Worth Parkway). UTSA officials will be present at the breakfast from 8:30-9:30 a.m. with special group rates for individual game and season tickets.

“We have sold almost 10,000 season tickets and expect right now more than 45,000 to attend the first game,” UTSA Athletics Director Lynn Hickey said. “We appreciate The Chamber helping to sell the remaining 20,000 seats. We hope that all businesses will join Mr. McCombs in his effort to complete the sellout of all 65,000 seats. In Red’s words, ‘Let’s fill ‘er up!’”

Also lending their support to the sellout are San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff and Chamber Chairman Sam Dawson.

“Football, especially in Texas, brings out the most devout fans — people who wear their favorite jerseys, paint their faces and stand in line all night to get tickets to a coveted game,” Chamber President & CEO Richard Perez said. “We want to foster that culture here in San Antonio for our new home team.”

The modern record for an NCAA Division I first-game attendance is 49,212, which occurred at South Florida on Sept. 6, 1997. The public may purchase season and single-game tickets by calling (210) 458-UTSA (8872), going to goUTSA.com or by visiting any San Antonio-area Ticketmaster location.
