MISSOULA, Mont. — Former UTSA men’s golfer Lewis Chong qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship after nabbing one of the two automatic qualifying spots at a U.S. Amateur Qualifier held at The Ranch Club on July 25.
Chong, a native of Lethbridge, Alberta, carded a 142 for 36 holes to tie for second. The 2011 honorable mention All-Southland Conference selection then defeated Taylor Smith of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, on the third hole of a sudden death playoff to clinch his spot in the nation’s top amateur tournament.
The U.S. Amateur Championship will be contested Aug. 22-28 at Erin Hills and Blue Mound Golf & Country Club in Erin, Wis. For more information, click here.
