CLEVELAND, Ohio — Five UTSA football players have been named toPhil Steele's Preseason FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) All-IndependentTeam, while six other Roadrunners have been listed as Players to Watch in the 2011FCS College Football Preview Magazine.
Redshirt freshman Kam Jones was selected to the firstteam offense at wide receiver, while senior safety Mark Waters, junior defensive end Lekenwic Haynes, sophomore linebacker Steven Kurfehs and redshirt freshmansafety Nic Johnston were picked for the first-teamdefense.
Six Roadrunners were listed as Players to Watch, including five on theoffensive side of the ball.
Sophomore quarterback Eric Soza, redshirt freshman running back Chris Johnson, redshirt freshman tight end Cole Hubble, junior tackle Patrick Hoog and redshirt freshman center Nate Leonard were recognized, while junior defensive end Marlon Smith also was listed.
UTSA kicks off its inaugural season against Northeastern State at 1p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Alamodome.
