Roadrunners add pair of transfers to football roster

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head football coach Larry Coker announced Monday that defensive lineman Lekenwic Haynes (Rosenberg, Texas/Terry HS/Mississippi) and offensive lineman Patrick Hoog (Castroville, Texas/Medina Valley HS/Oklahoma State) have transferred to the Roadrunners program.

Haynes, who will be a junior this fall, is coming off a sophomore season at Ole Miss that saw him appear in all 12 games. The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder recorded a total of seven tackles (six solo/one assist) and forced a fumble a year ago. As a redshirt freshman in 2009, he played in seven games on special teams for the Rebels. Coached at Rosenberg's Terry High School by Tim Teykl, Haynes was rated the nation's 52nd-best outside linebacker prospect as a prep senior by ESPN.com. He earned second-team All-District 24-4A honors as a junior after racking up 60 stops and picking off four passes. The son of Lisa Haynes and the late Roger Simpson, Haynes was born on March 6, 1990.

Hoog, who also will be a junior for the upcoming season, played in eight contests during the 2010 campaign for Oklahoma State and was a first-team Big 12 All-Academic selection. After sitting out his freshman season as a redshirt, the 6-foot-4, 300-pounder saw limited action for the Cowboys in 2009. He was a third-team Class 3A all-state selection as a senior at Castroville's Medina Valley High School. Hoog also was a two-time first-team All-District 27-3A honoree and Rivals.com three-star recruit. The son of Jerry and Sara Hoog, he was born on June 24, 1990, and is one of seven children.

UTSA will open its inaugural campaign on Sept. 3 against Northwestern State at the Alamodome.
