UTSA set to open play at NCAA West Regional on Thursday

SAN ANTONIO — Fresh off its first-ever Southland Conference Championship, the UTSA women's golf team will tee off at the NCAA West Regional on Thursday. The three-day tournament will be played at the Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash. The Roadrunners enter the 24-team field as the 19th seed.

Where: Washington National Golf Club (6,321 yards/par 72) – Auburn, Wash.

When: Thursday, May 5 – Saturday, May 7

Format: Three-day event with tee times for each round

Teams (by order of seed): USC, Virginia, Arizona, Georgia, Tennessee, Pepperdine, Iowa State, UC Davis, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Washington, Tulsa, Denver, San Diego State, BYU, New Mexico, UTSA, Portland State, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Oral Roberts, UTEP.

Fabiola Arriaga (Fr. – Torreon, Mexico)
· Southland Conference Freshman of the Year and first-team all-conference
· Tied for 1st at the Southland Championship, April 18-20
· Tied for second on the squad with a 75.97 stroke average
· Finished in the top 15 three of her last four tournaments
· Low round of the season was a 71 at the UCF Challenge, Feb. 13-15
· Recorded a 74 in her first collegiate round

Summer Batiste (Jr. – Austin, Texas)
· 2009-10 and 2010-11 second-team All-Southland
· Recorded her fourth career top 10 finish at the Baylor Spring Invitational (April 11-12) where she finished tied for seventh
· Fourth on the team with a 76.29 stroke average
· Has recorded three eagles this season
· Finished tied for 14th at 2011 Southland Championship

Shannon Jungman (Jr. – Pflugerville, Texas)
· Tied for fifth at the Southland Championship, April 18-20
· Fifth on the squad with a 78.09 stroke average
· Has appeared in more tournaments (25) than any other current UTSA golfer
· Shot a career-best 72 in the first round of the Alamo Invitational and again in the third round of the Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate

Taylor Newlin (Fr. – Frisco, Texas)
· 2010-11 second-team All-Southland
· Finished fourth at the Southland Championship, April 18-20
· Tied for second on the team with a 75.97 stroke average
· Shot a 69 at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship, Oct. 8-10
· Finished in the top 15 four times this season

Paola Valerio (So. – Mexico City, Mexico)
· 2010-11 Southland Conference Women's Golfer of the Year
· Only two-time first-team All-Southland selection in program history
· Set school records with a 66 and 54-hole score of 212 to finish fifth at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships, Oct. 8-10.
· Two-time Southland Conference Golfer of the Month (October 2010/February 2011)
· Leads the team and conference with a 74.97 stroke average
· Recorded an ace at the BYU Entrada Classic, March 21-22
· Finished in the top-10 five times this year and tied for second at the Islanders Classic, Feb. 28-March 1
