Five UTSA players earn Southland Conference postseason honors

FRISCO — Senior first baseman Ryan Hutson and sophomore third baseman Ryan Dalton headlined a list of five UTSA players who were honored on Monday when the Southland Conference announced its annual postseason awards.

Hutson and Dalton each were third-team selections, while senior catcher Tyler Carpenter, freshman outfielder Riley Good and junior pitcher Casey Selsor garnered honorable mention accolades.

Hutson, who hit his 48th career home run on Saturday to become the program's all-time leader, is the second player in school history to earn all-league honors in three different seasons, joining Michael Rockett (2006-09), who was a the program's only four-time selection. The Round Rock native, who collected first-team honors a year ago and was a third-team selection in 2009, leads the squad with a .625 slugging percentage and is tied for the team lead with 10 home runs. He also ranks second on the team with a .342 batting average and third with 11 doubles and 97 total bases.

Meanwhile, Dalton leads the club with 48 RBIs and is tied for the team lead with 10 homers. The 2010 Southland Freshman of the Year is batting .268 with seven doubles, three triples and is second on the squad with 98 total bases.

Good is having one of the top seasons by a freshman in UTSA history. The Godley native ranks third among the nation's freshmen with 83 hits (UTSA frosh record). He also leads the Roadrunners in six other offensive categories, including batting average (.343), at-bats (242), doubles (15), triples (3), total bases (110) and stolen bases (16).

Carpenter, who is being honored by the league for the first time in his career, is batting .313 with 10 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 36 RBIs. The Missouri City native has 66 hits this spring and ranks third on UTSA's all-time hits list (248/one away from second).

Selsor also is a first-time honoree by the league. The San Antonio native, who was named to the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award watch list earlier this month, is 5-5 on the mound with a rotation-best 2.98 ERA. He also leads the club with 90.2 innings pitched and 76 strikeouts. Selsor registered his first career shutout and fanned nine in UTSA's 4-0 win against Central Arkansas last Thursday. He has registered eight quality starts this year and has not allowed an earned run in his last 26.1 innings of work.

The five All-Southland selections push 11th-year head coach Sherman Corbett's all-time total to 51.

The sixth-seeded Roadrunners (26-30) open play at the Southland Tournament at 9 a.m. on Wednesday against No. 3 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (34-22). UTSA swept the Islanders from April 1-3 at Roadrunner Field earlier this season and have won five of the last six meetings between the two programs.
