HOUSTON — Sophomore Nicko Dodd won the Texas Amateur Qualifier on Monday at Westwood Golf Club and he had advanced to the 102nd Texas Amateur presented by Insperity.
Dodd fired a four-under-par 68 on the 7,050-yard layout, recording three birdies on the front nine en route to a 33 and another on the back in turning in his best round of the year. He was one of nine players in the 50-person field to qualify and was two shots ahead of a three-way tie for second between Matthew Seligmann, Wesley McClain and Ryan Loving.
Dodd now will participate in the Texas Amateur, which is set for June 16-19 at the historic Austin Country Club. The field of 144 players will play 36 holes before being cut to the low 54 and ties for 36 additional holes.
