Selsor named to John Olerud Award watch list on Friday

LUBBOCK — Junior Casey Selsor was one of 25 players named to the College Baseball Foundation's John Olerud Award watch list, the organization announced on Friday.

The Olerud Award, which recognizes the nation's top two-way player, will be presented in Lubbock on July 3 as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions.

Selsor owns a 4-4 record in 11 starting pitching assignments this season. The San Antonio native owns a rotation-best 3.93 ERA and also leads the club with 53 strikeouts in 68.2 innings pitched. He has registered five quality starts and won four of his last five outings. The southpaw struck out a career-high 10 batters against Nicholls a week ago.

In addition to his success on the mound, Selsor — who has started 24 contests in right field, 10 more at first base and once at designated hitter — has a .302 (42-for-139) batting average with nine doubles, a triple, two homers and 14 RBIs this spring. He also has racked up 12 multi-hit games, stolen 10 bases in 11 attempts and earlier this season hit safely in nine consecutive games from Feb. 19-March 5.

The 2008 37th-round draft pick by the Washington Nationals is slated to start on the mound for UTSA (22-24, 13-11 SLC) in Friday night's opening game of the I-35 Rivalry Series at No. 25 Texas State. First pitch at Bobcat Ballpark is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
