SAN ANTONIO — UTSA was limited offensively in a 5-1 loss to Baylor on Tuesday night at Wolff Stadium.
The Bears (22-20) took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning and scored three runs to pull away.
Three Baylor pitchers held the Roadrunners (19-23) to their lowest scoring output since April 9.
Brooks Pinckard (3-2) limited UTSA to just one run on four hits while striking out six over 5.1 innings to pick up the win. The Roadrunners then managed only a pair of hits off Jon Ringenberg and Max Garner in the final 3.2 frames to finish out the contest.
Freshman Michael Kraft (1-3) took the loss after yielding two runs on three hits over four innings. The San Antonio native also walked five and struck out three.
Sophomore Daniel Rockett was the lone bright spot offensively for the Roadrunners after collecting three hits and scoring the team's lone run in the third. Junior Jason Mohn was 1-for-3 and drove in Rockett on a sharp single to center.
Following Mohn's RBI single, the Birds loaded the bases with one out. However, Pinckard worked out of the jam by inducing an infield flyout and groundout.
Baylor's first two batters of the seventh reached based on a single and a walk. Joey Hainsfurther then reached on a sacrifice bunt, which was thrown wide of first base by sophomore Ryan Dalton. The Bears capitalized on the error by scoring on a sacrifice fly and Lawton Langford's two-run double to left with two outs.
UTSA returns to the diamond this weekend in a three-game series at Nicholls (20-21, 9-12 SLC).
